9 October 2015

AMSTERDAM: The Pointer 25, an open cockpit tour boat but with a generous cabin, has been named Sailboat of the Year 2015 by the Dutch sailing magazine Zeilen.

The Pointer-25 is made by Jachtwerf Heeg which has a dealer for Belgium and in the future will be looking for dealers in southern and northern Germany. The Zeilen jury lauded its Pointer-25 for “applying a high-standard construction with inconspicuous practical solutions.” Jachtwerf Heeg owner Geert Wijma thanked the jury for “recognizing an in-between sailboat concept that did not exist before.

”The Van de Stadt Design Pointer 25 is Wijma’s first cabin cruiser. It has 4 berths, a 2-burner cooker, an inboard engine and a draft of 1.10 - 1.50 m. Its sailing properties are good, courtesy of a fathead mainsail, a furling jib on a below-deck drum, a modern below-the-waterline hull with a bulb keel and spade rudder. Singlehanded sailors can opt for a self-tacking jib. The boat is highly suited for shallow offshore waters and lakes. Its website includes a configurator that lets you choose the Pointer-25 version and colors. “Annually we build about 40 sailboats,” says Wijma. “In the past year we built 11 Pointer-25s. In the year ahead we’ll build 10 to 15.”

Jachtwerf Heeg also builds 3 other daysailers: the Splash, the Randmeer and the G2. All boats are certified by ECB Nederland BV.
