ECB performs auditing and certification based on the TIM/CIM© model.
TIM/CIM© stands for Total Information Management & Compliance Information Management © . This model is based on a combination of international standards, applicable legislation and regulations in information management.
The model is developed in cooperation with leading legal, archiving and IT scientists in the field.
ECB TIM/CIM© auditing can be based on (applicable parts of) international standards and legislation such as:
- ISO 15489, which provides guidance on managing records of originating organizations, public or private, for internal and external clients
- ISO 23081:2006 which covers the principles that underpin and govern records management metadata. These principles apply through time to: - records and their metadata; - all processes that affect them; - any system in which they reside; - any organization that is responsible for their management
- NEN 2082, which covers functionalities for Records Management Applications within organisations. This standard is based on the requirements of ReMaNo and Interlab for the Dutch situation
- ReMaNo, Records Management in the Dutch Government
- MoReQ model requirements for Records Management in the European Union
- Legislation on data archiving
- Legislation on Personal Data Protection
- Customs, import and export regulations

The certification of ECB TIM/CIM© model exist in a number of certification schemes.
